Kay Elliott Architects has had a very successful twenty year partnership with TLH Leisure Resort. The Practice is committed to help raise the standard of facilities of Torquay’s premier holiday destination.
The group consists of four hotels – Derwent, Victoria, Toorak and Carlton.
The latest successful project completed at TLH has been the Aztec Falls Gym which adjoins the Aztec Falls Swimming Pool. This spacious, air-conditioned gymnasium opened in January 2004 with the most modern state of the art machines available to hotel guests and locals alike. The cost of construction of the gym, which is part of ongoing improvement works to the Carlton Hotel, was £400,000.
The latest project which is currently awaiting planning permission is for a Spa Treatment Centre, again at the Carlton Hotel. In 1998 a 3/ 4 storey link between the Carlton and Victoria Hotels was completed which comprised of full decoration of bedrooms, corridors, public areas and facilities. The cost of this contract was approximately £750,000.
Improvements at the Victoria Hotel have included an indoor bowling arena with games area, and refurbishment of the ballroom.
Refurbishment upgrades at the Derwent Hotel have included a hairdressing salon, play den, ballrooms, staff facilities and the leisure complex. In 1996 a £500,000 extension to the ballroom was completed which comprised of a new bar, dance floor and glazed conservatory-style seating areas.
The practice has obtained two planning permissions for major upgrades which have yet to be implemented. One is for the Toorak Hotel for alterations to form a new entrance with additional bedrooms and car parking. The second is for two new floors on the Victoria Hotel which would gain 32 new bedrooms, the reconstruction of the south elevation, new entrance to the hotel and Albert’s Bar with an improved street scene. |
