The hotel is a Grade II Listed Building in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has been upgraded and refurbished with alterations and extensions.

The Berry Head Hotel was originally built in 1809 as a military hospital. It was subsequently used as a private residence before becoming a hotel. It is now a Grade II Listed Building in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

In 1996 completion took place of alterations to the hotel which provided additional bedrooms, a function room, swimming pool, extension to the owners’ accommodation and storage/utility areas. The cost of this project was £120,000.

A second floor extension to provide sixteen additional en suite bedrooms and lift facilities was completed in June 1998 after a four-phase handover at a construction cost of £330,000.
