This amalgamation of two schools involved refurbishing existing buildings, construction of new classrooms and an ambitious landscaping scheme. Existing teaching spaces were re-organized and the learning environment integrated with the landscape.
The scheme provided 4 new classrooms, a nursery and an ICT suite in new built structures, with a further 3 classrooms reconstructed within an existing shell. The gloomy hall was extended with a fully glazed front wall.
Classrooms are linked to the landscape through external teaching spaces sheltered by timber canopies. Internally classrooms are generously top lit through roof lights and have a bright airy feel with tall ceilings.
Completed in November 2004 the scheme has enjoyed great success with pupils and teaching staff alike. An added bonus being that the project was delivered to budget and on time.
Feedback from the Head Teacher reads “We have now completed our move into our wonderful new school and we love it. Thank you so much for your excellent design. The indoor and outdoor are having a calming effect on us all. Long may it continue”. |
