New movable footbridge across Inner Harbour entrance.
Kay Elliott Architects, in conjunction with W.S.Atkins, were appointed by Torbay Council to design a new footbridge across the Inner Harbour entrance as part of the Torquay Waterfront Regeneration.
The completed bridge had to be visually striking and architecturally pleasing to act as a focal point within the Torquay Harbour Conservation Area.
Water in the Inner Harbour has been permanently impounded by constructing a sill at the Harbour entrance, thus creating a new ‘town square’ with the footbridge positioned on top providing an all important pedestrian link between the Old Fish Quay and South Pier.
The 45m long multi span bridge has a 10m opening section to allow the passage of boats. |
