Refurbishment of (and future extensions to) existing Aquarium.
Initial phase comprises of the refurbishment of the Strangford Lough Hall,
(including the replacement of the shoaling ring with a new ray tank exhibit).

Ards Borough Council commissioned Kay Elliott Architects to produce a scheme for the refurbishment of the existing aquarium facilities (Phase 1) and to design a new entrance/restaurant extension for the future development of the existing facilities (Phase 2).

The initial phase of refurbishment seeks to recreate exhibits which tell the story of the local marine and shoreline habitats to be found within and bordering the nearby Strangford Lough, a large tidal salt water expanse located within an hour’s drive of Belfast.

The second phase of the development, currently under preparation, will provide new and improved restaurant/shop facilities, freeing-up existing areas for further exhibits and conference/exhibition spaces.
